The Story about this TAC Claim
Ian and his wife Jane were both involved in severe high-speed collision when another driver failed to give way at an intersection and t-boned their vehicle at 100km/h. Ian had to be airlifted from the rural crash site and began a gruelling months’ long admission in a Melbourne hospital, including time in an induced coma and in intensive care. This was extended at a rehabilitation centre closer to his home in the ACT.
Given the nature of the collision, Ian was considered lucky to be alive and the extent of his recovery was somewhat remarkable. Even so, the ongoing impacts of his injuries are very significant. Ian and his wife had worked hard and reached a point where they could retire and pursue one of the great Australian dreams of getting a caravan and travelling all over the country. The accident happened on one of the first of these trips, which really compounded how devastating the situation has been for them. Being the admirably stubborn and stoic people they are, they have held on to the idea of travelling but they have had to adjust their plans and expectations in line with Ian’s new reality.
We worked hard to present Ian’s claim as clearly as possible to the TAC to help them understand the gravity and impact of the accident. We were able to get them to a conference and offering a generous settlement less than 18 months after Ian’s accident. Ian and his wife were relieved that we could secure an outcome at this stage so they can focus on trying to get back out there and enjoy their travels as best they can.
