The Story about this WorkCover Claim

John had just found a job as a curtains and blinds installer. He loved it and he was doing a great job. However he was not provided with just after a few weeks, he had an unfortunate accident. That day, he was at a customer’s house, installing some blinds upstairs. He then went down a set of narrow stairs, carrying his work ladder in front of him. His work ladder obstructed his view. He missed a step and fell down. In doing so, his elbow went through the glass window and he severed his elbow nerve. As a result of his injury John suffered great pain and had to undergo surgeries.

It was a difficult case because the accident did not happen at the employer’s usual place of business, but while he was attending to work at a customer’s residential premises. However we argued that risk assessment should have been undertaken before John visited the premises, in particular how to safely go up and down the stairs with the work ladder. There was also no adequate safety training given to John. We successfully settled his claim with a very good result.

He has recently written to us with his experience.
