Struan Jansen
An experienced and compassionate medical negligence lawyer, Struan holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) majoring in developmental biology and a Juris Doctor (Distinction). Struan achieved First Class Honours for medical research and a thesis focusing on fetal and placental development. His academic background in both Medicine and Law reflects a thoughtful, well-rounded approach to problem-solving – skills he brings into every matter he handles.
Struan has a particular passion for helping mothers and babies who have suffered through birth trauma. He also has extensive experience in all aspects of medical law including cases involving women’s health, delayed diagnosis of illness or cancer, catastrophic injury, medication errors, and surgical error. Struan endeavours to achieve meaningful outcomes for his clients, such as a recent settlement of $8.75 million for catastrophic injuries suffered as a result of a delayed diagnosis.
Struan has volunteered with the Disability Discrimination Legal Service, a state-wide community legal centre offering free assistance in disability discrimination matters. This work deepened his commitment to supporting people living with injury or disability, aligning closely with his role in medical law. Whether he’s helping a client navigate complex legal processes or advocating for fair outcomes, Struan is motivated by a genuine desire to make a difference during what can be some of the most challenging moments in people’s lives.
In addition to his legal work, Struan is also an active board member of Kevin Heinze Grow, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to therapeutic gardening programs for people with disabilities.
Outside the office, Struan is a keen sports enthusiast. Hailing from South Africa, he proudly supports the Springboks and the national cricket team. Closer to home, he finds joy in gardening and hiking on the weekends.
